And while the hospitality, local cuisine, and properties themselves were outstanding, I noticed a painful trend.
Almost every single boutique owner was fighting a losing battle. They were completely invisible online. They had no working direct booking systems, their Instagram channels lay dormant or posted stock images, and their local search visibility was nonexistent.
As a result, 80% of their guest occupancy came from Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) like MakeMyTrip, Booking.com, and Goibibo.
